Promotional hot/cold packs provide comfort to young parents

Centre for Young Parents opens in new window supports pregnant and parenting teens in the community of Grande Prairie, Alberta, and surrounding areas. The registered charitable organization provides resources and services for individuals younger than 20 from the time of pregnancy until their child turns six. “Our vision is to be a community that meets uncertainty with opportunity,” said Heather Tillapaugh, community engagement coordinator.

The organization offers an array of services, including a free childcare centre, nutrition support, parenting education, transportation, counseling, mental health services and more. Often its services enable young parents to finish their education so they can raise their family independently. Each year about 200 people benefit from those efforts.

While its impact is vast, Centre for Young Parents’ work is carried out by a small, dedicated team. About 10 employees and 30 or so volunteers keep these essential services running. Their duties include anything from driving transportation vans to conducting home visitations to running support groups. Educational opportunities run the gamut from an introduction to the public library to sessions on dental care and managing finances.

Promotional hot/cold packs added to supply bags

At 32 weeks of pregnancy, each family connected with Centre for Young Parents receives a diaper bag loaded with essentials. The bags include baby shampoo and lotion, washcloths, towels, diapers, wipes as well as hygiene supplies for the mother. A one by one® grant provided promotional hot/cold packs opens in new window that were added to the bags.

The hot/cold packs, imprinted with the organization’s logo, were chosen for their versatility. For example, they can provide postnatal relief, help with aches and pains, or be used to keep food cool during a work or school day.

Opportunities for essential support

Tillapaugh said grants like one by one are critical for organizations like Centre for Young Parents to continue helping their communities. “Grant programs, including through corporations, are essential for our fundraising efforts,” she said. “Without them, we would simply cease to exist.”

A note from Cheryl

Centre for Young Parents does important work to provide resources and support for young families in its community. We were proud to help, even if in a small way, by providing promotional hot/cold packs to add to gift bags for families.
