Pet Adoption League of Gem County

Emmett, Idaho

Safe haven for animals

Pet Adoption League of Gem County opens in new window is a nonprofit animal rescue committed to helping lost, homeless, and surrendered cats and dogs find loving homes. For nearly 40 years, the organization has worked to return stray pets to their owners or find them new, permanent homes. In 2024, nearly 300 animals were reconnected with their owners or adopted by new families.

Based in Emmett, Idaho, the organization operates a shelter in a former veterinary clinic. Powered by the dedication of about 70 volunteers, the space can house up to 15 dogs and about 25 cats. The team also offers a spay and neuter program for feral cats in the community and a pet food pantry for those who need help caring for their animals.

“There is no municipal dog catcher or animal control in the county, so we work with the police. They can bring cats or dogs in 24/7, and we’ll take care of them, check for chips and try to find the owners,” said Shell Wiley, president and treasurer. “We put them out on Facebook® to try to find the original owner. If the owner is not found after five days, they become adoptable and we try to find them a new home.”

Volunteer appreciation gifts show love to shelter helpers

A one by one grant provided T-shirts opens in new window for volunteers to wear while working at the shelter, participating in events, or just out and about in the community. “We don’t have a lot of money to put toward volunteer appreciation gifts, so this was a nice thing to be able to do,” Wiley said. “I thought it was very lovely.”

Beyond their use to recognize the team, the T-shirts boost visibility for the brand. Volunteers wear them during community outreach events, including an annual harvest festival and pet food drive held outside a local Tractor Supply Co.® store. Team members also wear them during local TV news appearances. Whenever there’s an opportunity to make an impression, Pet Adoption League of Gem County shirts help do just that.

A note from Cheryl

The Pet Adoption League of Gem County volunteer team does important work to provide shelter, care, and new possibilities for dogs and cats. We were proud to support their mission—even if only in a small way—by providing T-shirts given as volunteer appreciation gifts.
