Promotional outreach items support youth mental health

Olivia Kaye Organization opens in new window was born out of heartbreak. In 2024, Carrie Bolen lost her 21-year-old daughter Olivia to fentanyl poisoning. “Olivia was smart, beautiful, funny and so easy to love,” Bolen said. “People were drawn to her light, her laughter and her personality. She seemed to have so much going for her—but behind that radiant smile, she carried pain and struggles that even those closest to her couldn’t see.”

To continue Olivia’s story, Bolen launched the nonprofit named in her honor. Its mission is to educate youth and their families about the dangers of substance use and the importance of prioritizing mental health. Its team includes several of Olivia’s friends and family members.

“Our mission is mostly focused on prevention,” Bolen said. “The goal is to reach them while they’re young and provide education and awareness about mental health. It’s about embracing that we all have mental health struggles and how to face them head on and not turn to destructive behaviors to cope.”

Connecting with the community

Bolen and her team of volunteers host and participate in initiatives to connect with young people in the community. Among events hosted are Sink the Stigma back-to-school bash, Spare Some Time for Mental Health youth bowling event and Do-Nut Give Up doughnut giveaway.

At these events, youth and families receive Empower Kits—baskets or bins filled with items designed to provide positive outlets, uplift and inspiration. While customized for different audiences and situations, the kits typically include snacks, coloring or sketchbooks, journals, tumblers, fidget items and information about the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.

A one by one grant provided pens opens in new window and stress balls opens in new window, which were included in the kits. These outreach items are practical for recipients and help raise awareness for the organization. “I’ve owned a business, so I know about the importance of branding and marketing,” Bolen said. “We’ve only been around for two years, so having these branded items to give has been awesome.”
