Custom event gifts promote community partnership
In rural southwestern New York, Jamestown Community College serves nearly 5,000 students, including many who are first-generation college students. Launched in 1983, Jamestown Community College Foundation opens in new window is an independent nonprofit that supports the college through fundraising and community partnerships.
The latest example of community collaboration is a project that brings together Jamestown Community College and the Jamestown Area YMCA® to benefit students and local residents. At the center of the partnership is the JAY Wellness Center, a $48 million development expected to open in 2029. The 52,000-square-foot hub will include athletic fields and a wellness facility that will serve students and community members. Another key piece of the project is an expanded childcare facility.
New name for a new era
In celebration of the partnership, the college and YMCA hosted a ribbon-cutting celebration at the Jamestown Campus Physical Education Complex. It welcomed community leaders, public officials and representatives from the college and YMCA to the existing space the partners will share until the new construction is finished.
While groundbreaking on the new facility is planned for 2027, the kickoff event featured the reveal of the JAY Wellness Center name and logo. Combining the YMCA’s branding with the college’s Jayhawk mascot, the name reflects the shared vision for the facility and its benefit to the community.
Raising awareness with custom branded merch
A one by one grant provided drawstring sportpacks opens in new window that were given to attendees. The Jamestown Community College Foundation team chose the custom event gifts because they were a natural fit for a wellness center.
“It’s really a perfect gift because people always can use a drawstring bag when they’re going to work out,” said Carissa Bentley, executive director. “The drawstring bags also allowed for a lot of space to showcase the JAY logo.”
Attendees received their gift as they arrived for the ribbon-cutting. Guests toured the existing athletic and fitness facilities and learned details of the bright future ahead, then took home a useful product that draws attention to the JAY Wellness Center brand.
